How to get Google Analytics to work with Hostgator websites
Google Analytics is a bit like a formula one car that I use to drive down the high street. It is hugely powerful and gives me massive insight into how folk are using my websites, how they are filtering through sales funnels and which areas of my business need a bit of fixing.
But, when I first got going, I had a bit of trouble that took a good few days to sort out – so here it is and here is the solution.
Hostgator has certain security features enabled by default. These features are mutually incompatible with the way that Google Analytics works.
So you need to have Hostgator switch off these features. This is super easy – just call up / or use live chat with Hostgator and provide your domain name, URL where you receive the error (you will get a 403 error) and then request that you are “white listed” for any “mod sec rules” that may be taking effect.
This took me a long time to figure out, but it is really easy to do… so don’t get stuck – implement this quick fix when you get Hostgator.
